GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida — Rockstar's take on Florida — with a modern Vice City at its heart. This is a location-by-location database of what has actually appeared in official trailers and marketing, kept separate from the wishlist of places fans hope to see. For the wider story behind the setting, see our companion piece, Leonida and Vice City explained.
Confirmed: the big picture
- The state of Leonida. The overall setting, inspired by Florida. Confirmed.
- Vice City. A present-day, Miami-inspired metropolis and the map's urban anchor. Confirmed.
Confirmed region types
Beyond the city itself, the trailers make clear that Leonida spans several distinct environments. These broad areas are supported by what Rockstar has shown:
| Location | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Modern Miami-style city: beaches, high-rises, nightlife. | Confirmed |
| Beaches & coastline | The sun-and-sand strip the series is known for. | Confirmed |
| Wetlands / swamp | Everglades-style backcountry with airboats and wildlife. | Confirmed (shown) |
| Rural towns & highways | Smaller communities linking the map's urban centres. | Confirmed (shown) |
| Island chain / the Keys | Coastal islands stretching into the water. | Shown; naming unconfirmed |
Real-world inspirations
Leonida clearly draws on real Florida landmarks, even where Rockstar uses fictional names. The fingerprints are easy to spot:
- Vice City ↔ Miami — art-deco beachfronts, neon nightlife and canals.
- Wetlands ↔ the Everglades — airboats, alligator country and swamp roads.
- The Keys ↔ the Florida Keys — island hops and long causeways over water.
- Inland towns ↔ central Florida — trailer parks, strip malls and back roads.
Unconfirmed & rumoured places
Fans have mapped out all sorts of specific districts and named neighbourhoods, but most of these are not officially confirmed. Be sceptical of:
- Precise neighbourhood names within Vice City.
- A confirmed second major city (nothing official).
- Exact map size or square mileage figures — Rockstar hasn't published them.
- Interior access, specific landmarks or building-by-building layouts.
The bottom line
The confirmed picture is simple and exciting: Leonida, anchored by a modern Vice City, surrounded by beaches, wetlands, rural towns and island coastline. Everything more granular is still speculation. For who's running the streets of these places, read our gangs & factions guide, and get the full picture in Everything Confirmed About GTA 6.
We'll update this location database as areas are confirmed, and again when GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026.
